What's happening to M&S food?

I think their Dine in for 2 deals are worth it. Much better than Tesco's version. A decent wine, main, side dish, and dessert for £10 is very good. Its nice to get the option of a whole chicken, if you don't fancy any of the main courses available, and theres usually plenty of choice.0

Yes, the Dine In Meals are a good bargain and I've been getting them for I suppose a couple of years now. But I got very worried a few weeks back when my local branch tested out a new Dine In for £10 meal idea - without the wine. It was an experiment (there's a thread on it somewhere here) and we all hope that the experiment failed.0

Won't be buying it, if wine isn't included!0 -
I dont really like wine ( dare I say it!) and so dont really buy the meal deal. A couple of times M&S have done a box of chocolates or cheese board INstead of the wine which I thoguht was great, the chocs make quite nice presents:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I've noticed that too, I dont go in often but its definatley on the wane, much like the clothes!
My OH went in a branch at about 5pm recently to find the shelves basically empty, he had problems finding a pizza he wanted and he isnt fussy.
Im a veggie and their meals have never been great for me but now theyre dire. I asked a staff member about this eat in for £10 business and what I could eat, could only have the main course (roast veg - how exciting) and obv the pudding (poss, tho you have to scrutinse labels even for sweets, eg muller light have gelatine in) but no starter so for me the £10 deal is useless. If I want a treat I go to waitrose, rest of the time its Lidl and Morrisons0 -
I've often thought that they've always been overrated. Whenever I've bought food there - except speciality products, I've been disappointed by size if not also quality.
Got a good deal on excellent strawberries but that doesn't happen every week
Do like the odd special, not always discounted but not really available elsewhere. Like the Baklava selection box. Yum.
Not much else good there sad to hear it's gone worse. Agree clothes are less value also.

M&S are now selling other brand products (Kellogs etc) at dearer prices than the other supermarkets. Why? M&S used to be the leader in food for quality but it's not now." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Have to agree with declining standards. Have quite a few gift cards and have been using them for food to keep grocery spend down and bought some mince yesterday. Not very good, rubbery and greasy. Their men's clothes, especially those from China are very poor quality. My DH bought a woolen jumper and it's begun to unravel and small holes have started to appear on the ribbing and under the arms. When on holiday in Spain he bought a woolen jumper (made in Britain!) and it's much superior in quality.GC - Oct £36.17/£31

Ive noticed the packs are getting smaller. Ive not noticed any drop in quality tho, the smoked salmon over Christmas (half price) was excellent as always, and the party nibbles etc were all the same quality as previous years, but I did notice some of them were smaller than usual as others have mentioned.
The Chinese range packs look smaller although Im unsure if that is the packaging being reduced or the actual portion size, but when we recently had the Sticky Chilli Chicken (favourite!) it was the same amount as usual.
My only gripe with M&S is the use by dates, and if something is use by the same day you buy it they don't reduce until 4pm, and as Im often on my way somewhere when I pop in, Im not wasting petrol going back at 4!
I may just have been lucky with the things I buy, I really liked the Mochacchino muffins that were half price the other week, and the ham and salmon Ive bought recently were as good as always, but will keep an eye!0 -
I bought a few things from M & s recently & was also disappointed. The lemon mousses were horrible, the chocolate muffins & a chocolate swiss roll thing were tasteless & an apricot swiss roll was not very nice either. My kids do like their sausages though.Grocery aim £450pm.Spent £519 August, £584 July, £544 June, £541 May, £549 April, £517 March, £517 Feb,£555 Jan, £573 Dec, £465Nov, £561Oct, £493Sept, £426Aug,£496 Jul, £528Jun, £506May,£498April, £558 March, £500Feb, £500 Jan, £490 Dec, £555 Nov,£566 Oct, £505Sept, £450Aug, £410 July, £437 June, £491 May, £471 April, £440 March, £552Feb, £462Jan0
