USA fly drive or book separately??

Someone at work used trailfinders for their california trip - she chose all the hotels she wanted beforehand and they sorted it all out and it worked out cheaper - they arranged the car hire etc as well apparently. But when we went I booked everything seperately - I just wanted to be in control of what we did and where we stayed etc as I like to check out the hotels from reviews etc before choosing where to stay and the route we took0

Sometimes it can be cheaper to buy a flight + car package (car can even be 'free' on some), throw away the car and book your own. (Reason is the huge insurance you would have to pay on the included car)
I've just started booking/planning a similar holiday - flight booked and paid for in January flight sales, first and last night hotels booked (one cancellable, the other not - a HUGE difference in price). The car I'll probably do fairly soon when I get an offer e-mail from Auto Europe, Carhire 3000, etc and the rest of the hotels, mostly cancellable, in slow time.
It didn't cross my mind to get someone to book the lot for me.0 -
Thanks everyone for your responses! I'll be investigating all possibilities and will re-post when i've found a good deal!0
