Hearing Aid Info

I've just come back from seeing my NHS Audiologist and have been told that they are getting an upgrade to my current aid, which is the Spirit 3, and will contact me in a month or two. Does anyone happen to know which aid this is on the Oticon website? I'm wondering if it it's the Sumo, as that seems to be the one for severe/profound deafness, same as the Spirit 3? Just wanting to check out what the upgrade actually is, in the hope that it might help me more. :)

Thanks

    Cheeselady,

The Oticon Spirit 3 is obsolete and has been for some time now. If you PCT is still using Oticon as its preferred supplier, you are likely to receive the Oticon Zest. The technology within the Zest has been around quite a few years now, and became available to the NHS in 2010 (and possibly in 2009?). So it is still quite old-fashioned, but it is a huge leap forward on the Spirit 3. You won't find much about the Zest online, since it is a basic / standard product that is supplied only to the NHS.

Since August 2010, the NHS Catalogue has been widened considerably, so your Audiologist can choose from an enormous selection of aids and manufacturers, provided the bigwigs allow such a choice. If you want a particular type of aid, a specific model, or would like hearing aid from a specific manufacturer, you will need to ask the audiologist specifically to check if it in the current Catalogue.

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it, didn't realise my aid was now obsolete, lol, so hopefully the new one will be an improvement. :)
