Is it possible to buy a London Travelcard to Tonbridge but travel Tonbridge and back again rather than a Travelcard which has Tonbridge as the Destination as how would the ticket guard know and you have unlimited travel between your destination and the zones covered? A Travelcard originating from London is considerably cheaper.

Difficult to understand the concept of a travelcard from London to Tonbridge.

A travelcard from Tonbridge allows a single journey from Tonbridge into London, and then unlimited travel in London, and then a single trip back to Tonbridge.

A Tonbridge to London travelcard does not allow unlimited travel between Tonbridge and London.

A travelcard originating in London does not allow travel outside the zones. Tonbridge is well outside the zones.

There is no such thing as a travelcard originating in London and terminating in Tonbridge. Where did you get a price from and what is it?? It's not just a normal return ticket you are thinking of is it?

What is possible as an add-on to a London travelcard is to buy a day return ticket from boundary zone 6 (or any other zone come to that) to Tonbridge. That day return ticket can only be used in the in the sequence outward part - return part. You cannot use the return part first. As to whether misuse is detectable though - doubtful. Unless you got a bright inspector who happened to notice you were travelling to London in the morning on a return ticket when you couldn't possibly have got to Tonbridge in time to use it. And returning late in the evening on the outward part might arouse suspicion too.

You can neither price nor buy Boundary Zone tickets online BTW
  • Have checked Southeastern website again and dzug1 you are correct, you can buy a "travelcard" type ticket which has the following but it is still a return ticket so would have two parts unlike a proper Travelcard which only has one and hence unusuable in reverse as you would not have the both parts when travelling back to Tonbridge.
    Origin:Zone U1* Londn
    Destination:Tonbridge
Oh well I will continue my quest to find a solution to how to reduce my fares which have increased by 20% over the last two years!

Remember that that zone u1 ticket is not a travelcard in any shape or form - you only get one journey each way in zone 1 with it, not unlimited travel. The travelcard you get from Tonbridge gives unlimited travel in zones 1-6

You could try walking or bus from Charing Cross to wherever you are going - or maybe check Oyster for your central London journeys.

And if the times suit (leave Tonbridge after 1000) a superoffpeak day return (£12) and a separate travelcard/Oyster is certainly going to be cheaper
