working tax credits for those living abroad

hi, can someone please help me... I live abroad in Greece but am employed by and English company.. I get paid in the UK and pay my NI in the UK... I am employed for 7 months out of the year and am on a low income... the tax office says that I have to live in the UK to get working tax credits and I can't pay IKA into the Greek system to claim benefits in the winter months as I get paid in the UK? Helppp!!! I can't afford to live this way? Do I actually have to live in the UK to claim the working tax credits?? much appreciated...:(

You will not satisfy the residency test so you will not qualify for Tax Credits.

The general rule is that to qualify for tax credits you must be aged 16 or over and usually live in the United Kingdom. You may also qualify if you do not live in the UK but you are
• A citizen of another country in the European Economic Area (EEA) and you work in the United Kingdom, or
• A Crown Servant posted overseas, or
• A citizen of a country in the European Economic Area (including the UK) living abroad and you receive a UK state pension or contributions-based Jobseeker's Allowance.

what would you do in the 5 months you are not working as you would not be entitled to working tax credits for this period. Note there was another thread a few months ago woth someone else that did "seasonal" work (think they were a holiday rep) and they found they were not entitled to JSA for the periods they were back in the UK and out of work
