I'm just wondering what "complimentary refreshments" are offered in FGW 1st class and what exactly are the perks?

I'm deciding whether it's worth a tenner upgrade each way or not :think:

The answer is that it depends on the day of the week and the time of travel

During the daytime Monday to Friday on Adelante and HST services you can exect at seat service consisting of tea, coffee, orangina and water. This can be accompanied by a mixture of cake, biscuits or peanuts.
On Friday afternoons you'll get a glass of wine.

Outside of those times you have to walk to the buffet to get your free items.

A free newspaper should also be forthcoming

Seating will be three abreast rather than four.

Be warned if your service is provided using a "Thames Turbo" unit then the only benefit is to be seated in slightly separated cabin.

Never remember which trains I am on but generally find first class offers things like:

Free wireless internet (which on long journeys would have cost more than the upgrade)
Free soft drinks
Free nibbles
Above available as table service
Free newspaper
Larger seats
All have tables
