Has anyone used Farrow and Ball paint. It is a lot more expensive than other brands. The colour I like is coming out in February. Even the tester pots are £3.50.

I painted my entire flat with Farrow & Ball (Blackened White) six months ago and it the best decision I ever made, the is NO odour when painting, six months later it looks brand new, it covers everything. It is expensive but it is worth every penny I have converted my sister as well and she never looked back either0 -
There are a few things I've noticed about expensive paint vs cheap paint:
It covers better so you have to do fewer coats. Our cheap white ceiling paint was on coat number 4 and it still needed another one. We gave up in the end and got something more expensive for the final coat
The colours are slightly more complex, and often look a lot better, eg our purple has hints of blue, grey etc in it so looks different in different lights which is nice.
It comes off the brushes and rollers more easily, so less time spent cleaning up.If having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:0 -
I haven't used it, but I have had expensive paint colours copied/matched at my local independent paint/decorating shop.
I was really pleased with the results and as we were painting large rooms, it made it far more affordable for us.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

I have used farrow and ball several times in the past. I painted my kitchen with some last week and have lots of tester pots
If its just the colour, rather than the finish that you like then I'd get it colour matched if that will be cheaper. This is what we will be doing with exterior paint when I've finally chosen one from the testers we have ATM, because it will work out significantly less expensive.
The things I think are worth Farrow and ball are dead flat oil (for wood work). Its a superb finish, easier to work with and I hate gloss so this stuff is for me. And the traditional finish interior paint had a very dense chalky finish which I've never seen matched as well.
I do think it covers better, but its not as easy to get a good finish in my amateur opinion.I know my mother's decorators HATE using it too. You are meant to apply with a brush, but I've used a roller successfully.
I am strictly an amateur home decorator, but have used this stuff over the last ten-12 years in student flats, rentals and parents homes, and now my own.0 -
Hello whatawit, hngrymummy,sparkle84 and lostinrates, what lovely replies. I meant to post this in 'in my home' so didn't expect any replies.
I was expecting everyone to say cheaper paint is just as good so I am really pleased. The colour is mizzle (grey with a hint of green) and looks lovely. Thanks again.

Totally worth it -love F&B and Little Green Paints - we did get one colour matched for ds's room trying to be cheap - and the finish is not nearly as soft/ chalky looking and if it was anywhere else we'd redo itPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Ive used it to decorate throughout my house and love it. Yes its expensive but the finish is fabulous. Ive also used their wallpaper as a feature wall in some rooms and the colour match with the paint was exact. If you give them the measurements of the wall they work out how many rolls you need, though minimum order is 3 rolls. Again ridiculously expensive but by just doing one wall I justified it to myself.
No awful paint fumes to put up with either. We slept in the bedroom same night as finishing and weren't bothered by the smell of paint at all.0 -
Thanks rachbc and pupsicola, how lovely to have such positive comments.

Dont know where abouts you are but in Tunbridge Wells there is a Farrow and Ball shop and they have all the paints on boards so you can see what the effect is in different lights. They also have their range of wallpapers hanging up on huge display panels. Well worth a visit as the manager in there is a wealth of knowledge and very helpfull. Before you ask I dont work for them0

Another F&B fan here! We painted our hallway and baby's nursery in F&B paints, we have a period maisonette and the colours are just fab.
The coverage is brilliant too and you only need one coat.
Pricey but worth it!Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0
