Can British Gas increas prices while in process of switching?
Hi there,
On the 30th November I have applied to switch my dual fuel from British Gas to EDF. I have received the final bill with the new prices from 7th December to 6th January. After speaking with one of the managers of British Gas I was told that because I did not call British gas to inform them of my switching because of price rise, they have the power to charge me the new prices of gas and electricity.
Can please someone help regards this matter. I am keen to give more info if required.
Many thanks

To not see the price change you needed to tell them to hold your prices whilst you administered a switch.
I'm not sure of the exact time limits but I think you need to tell them within 30 or possibly 60 days of receiving notification of the price change.
As soon as I heard of the increase I sent an e-mail to BGas saying I was leaving and asking them to hold my prices and they confirmed they would fix my prices for 6 weeks.0 -
The general terms are you have 10 working days from receiving notice of a price rise to give notice that you reject those terms and intend to terminate the supply contract (by switching to another supplier)
Then the new supplier must contact, within 15 working days of such notice being given, the new supplier to initiate the transfer process.
(Some suppliers may grant greater timeframes, so refer to their terms & conditions)
Sadly, if you didn't give notice of your rejection to the terms and that you intended to change supplier as a result, the old supplier does not have to maintain the old prices."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
