Setting up wireless router.

Hi,
I have to set up a wireless router for a family member. Wonder if I have to do it exactly the same way as I have done my own, and would be grateful if someone could answer the following question?
She has a main computer and laptop. Am I right in saying that you have to have a physical connection to router through an ethernet cable from one of the computers so that router can be configured, or can you also do this though a usb wireless dongle, when setting up a router for the first time?
thanks
Joe

You don't need to connect the wireless router to any if both are capable of receiving wireless signal by USB dongle/internal card/built in wi-fi.
I would connect the PC by cable but only if the phone line was handy and close.0 -
Thanks for quick reply. Well she has an older desktop about 6 years old. So she won't have a ethernet card in that, but later on she wants to move the desktop away from the telephone socket so will require the usb dongle as you have just said.
What I'm a bit worried about is accessing the router page setup etc and if I get a usb dongle should it be able to get me to the router setup page easily enough at the initial setup process.

use the wired ethernet card in the laptop to set it up, the problem with doing it wireless is that as soon as you put in the encryption key, you will lose the connection..

Even 6 year old PC's had ethernet cards .. they only cost £3 from ebuyer if you don't have one.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
