Cancellation question

Hi, me an my girlfriend had booked to go to Florida in April this year, we split up last year so I went in to my travel agents (thomas cook) and asked about cancelling this holiday but transferring the deposit we had paid onto a new holiday.

I was told in person and over the phone that they would keep hold of the deposit until I had chosen a new holiday and they would transfer it over. I've recently contacted them and now they are saying there are no notes on the system confirming this and that the holiday has been cancelled and the deposit cannot be transferred, but I was told in the travel agents and over the phone.

Obviously I'm not happy with this I've missed out on £500.

Does anyone have any advice and what I should do next?

Cheers

Phil

who was the lead name on the booking? you or your (ex) GF. if it was you, then go into the travel agency and ask to see written authorisation from yourself that you asked them to cancel the holiday.

Normally, a holiday has to be 'live' in order that a deposit may be transferred over, so if it was cancelled last yaer then there is no chance of transferring the deposit.

I was the lead name on it. I was told that they cancel the holiday and keep the deposit there for me. I was told this over the phone, so surely the call will be recorded, to use as evidence even if they have cancelled it?

can you speak to the person who you spoke to originally and said they would keep the deposit for you?

Philg, i fear you may have been mis-informed on that, as we could only transfer live bookings over, and there is no gaurantee that your call will be recorded.

As melb says above, try speak with whoever told you that the deposit would be held, to see if they can recollect the details, and speak too with the shop manager.

  • I've got to ring the shop tomorrow when the manager is in. Luckily the manager was the person who I booked the original holiday with, an I know the name of the person who told me about transferring the deposit.

    Cheers for the help!
