Faulty Plasma TV dilema

17 month ago I purchased a Plasma TV from Comet for £700. The display is now faulty on all inputs (yellow tint to picture & not so sharp picture).
I keep on reading about the SoG that would indicate that TV's of this price would be expected to last 6 years.
I am told that I can pay for an engineer to look at for £125, but I worry that if it cannot be fixed would I just be wasting my money?

Not necessarily. Some goods would be expected to last 6 years, for example a car. Other goods are not expected to last six years.

It would be worth nothing, that Plasma TV displays do degrade over time, this is highly publicised and possibly could result in the expectation of a plasma tv not to last the full six years.

That being said, it is just over a year and a half old, therefore you could be entitled to have a repair part-funded by comet however this is an agreement you would have to reach with the store and would be dependant on different factors (eg expected life of parts).

As said above, it depends on how much it costs and the general lifetime expectancy.

Yes under the SoGA you would expect a £700 TV to last more then a year and a half, however you will need to get a independent report done to proceed with a free repair.
If the report states that the fault is inherent then Comet are under a obligation to refund the report and provide a remedy.

it is also important to note that after 6 months the onus is on yourself to prove the TV was not fit for purpose not comet.
