Washing Machine - Warranty?

Hi,
My washing machine has broken down and I've arranged for a mechanic to come out on Monday. The machine is just under 4 yrs old, and its warranty was only for 1 year. It came with an option to buy a further 7 yrs warranty, parts only, but that was valid for UK only, and I'm in Ireland.
I think it's unlikely anyone can help, but can you think of any way I could get the manufacturer to share the cost of the repair? I bought the machine brand new (it was around 500 euro), a Whirlpool. It had problems just after I bought it (which were fixed under the warranty) and more now (although I'm thinking the belt may just have gone).
We're looking at about 100 sterling to get it fixed so any ideas? I know I could try and do it myself (my mum used to fix washing machines but she's in Australia), so I'm thinking that may not be the best option. I wouldn't know what I'm doing.
I think I bought it with cash so it wouldn't be covered by my credit card, and while I have contents insurance, there's a 150 euro excess, so even if it was covered under the policy I doubt I'd get anything back.
Any advice though would be appreciated.

I think you may be clutching at straws, but the SOGA may be of some use to you if you can prove the problem is related to the original. If it's a case of the belt going, that's just wear and tear (though I would expect it to last longer). I doubt it would have made a difference if you had bought it on a credit card and your insurance will probably just say wear and tear. There may be guides on the net if you google, which tell you how to fix simple problems.0

Hi,
What's the SOGA? I'm thinking I might have a look at it myself tomorrow morning. I had a heavy load of laundry (including a large throw) in it at the time it went so it could have broken the belt. It seems to be working except that the drum isn't turning when it should be and my husband said that when he tried to turn it manually it wasn't turning easily.
Yeah I'm thinking I probably won't get any financial help from the manufacturer, but I will ask the mechanic when he comes here (I arranged it through the whirlpool helpline). Unless of course I pull it to bits and get it working in the meantime.
It's a pity it's run into problems again, as it is still fairly new imo.
Thanks,

My machines normally only last me 4-5 years and I don't by the cheapest ones either.
Could it just be your brushes that have gone? I was told they normally last 3 years (mine always go around 18 months - the engineer fits industrial ones in my machine if they go). Please don't attempt to fix it yourselves if you aren't sure what you're doing.0 -
I just decided to empty the filter on the machine (I've only done it once in 4 years) and oh my god... I now turn green at the fact I washed my clothes in *that* machine. I will need to clean it out MUCH more regularly.
That wasn't the problem anyway. Drum isn't wanting to turn at all. I'll just get the mechanic out I think.
Thanks for the advice,
