Rehoming 2 older cats - house training?
Comments

They also like the tall ones because they use them to stretch as well as claw and a cat is very long when at full stretch!0

OOh can't believe I've just found the pet pages!
How wonderful for those 2 cats to have found such a caring home
I've bought my cats sooo many lovely beds and they maybe get in them once then they end up in the pile to go to the rescue shelter. A decent cardboard box (Lidls is good for these...) and a primark blanket seems to do the trick - maybe an old cushion underneath - preferably off the ground and next to the radiator! I've also picked up some great beds (the plastic ones) for £1 at my local car boot sale. Some in perfect condition. My cats do use these ones if I make them comfy enough!
My cats love my coir front door mat too. About £8 from TK Maxx I think.Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -

I bought a coir mat for mine too as my last cat loved to use that, but when I got home I couldn't open the front door with it in position, so it ended up outside in the porch, which is of no use (cat-wise) at all as he's an indoor cat!0 -
They are absolutely gorgeous!!! Love that chunky look in a cat...sigh.0

Sorry but who/what are you referring to in your post? Maybe I'm thick but I can't find any connection with the previous posts!!0 -

He is very chunky!
He's currently lay on the sofa next to me rolling around on his back and asking for fuss too! ^_^
The other one (who looks quite similar to yours I think paddy? maybe it's the moustache!) got out earlier when the plumber was bringing his tools in - ahh! We live right by a very woody area and canal (well, it's right in front of the house) so were very worried. Looked for an hour or so and frantically calling him (and rattling his food box!) before hearing some meowing but he still wasn't keen to come back and found his way onto a neighbours shed! Tried to get him and failed, eventually got him and what started with scared cries ended with him panicking and ripping my arm to shreds
9 plasters on at the moment! Don't really mind though - just happy he's back and safe, currently tucked up on the bed too
Will have to be very careful in future... he does spend a lot of time just staring out the window so I'm sure he'll be happy in a few weeks when he's allowed out properly!
We actially bought them a bed, just in case... no luck at all, they just completely ignore it
Moe (the big one) just only ever wants to sleep under the bed anyway, that's all he does is burrow under the sheets, ah! I don't like him there but girlfriend assures me that he's happy so we should let him, hmm :P Also got a scratching post (again that they aren't using, despite the catnip!) and some anti scratch stuff for the carpets... no luck with that either

Have you tried one of those plant spray things filled with water (make sure there is no trace of any chemicals left in it if you've had plant food or something else in it before.) usually just the sound of it near the cat is enough for them to back away from wherever they are scratching, or they may need a small spray of water. I don't think this is cruel, it makes for a happier you and therefore a happier cat.Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!

Thanks for the replies again guys - may have to try the above, or maybe even a water pistol since they mostly do it when we're in bed, and if I get out of bed they run away! So weird that they spend the entire night either being incredibly calm and just curled up on the bed, or tearing around the house and (now quite literally!) tearing up the carpet.
Really need to do something about it. Got a really nice scratching post (wave one as well as a post on it too so they can take their pick!) with some catnip on, and have sprayed the 'pet behave anti scratch' or whatever on the carpets but it isn't helping. They're ruining the carpet in the bedroom and the carpet in the hallway too (luckily we put some carpet down on top in front of our door which is wrecked, but they got under it too and pulled the carpet from out of the edging strips!)
Such awesome cats, but really, really wish they'd stop scratching

Cats are good as gold now, mostly
The big one just follows us about all the time but gets a bit annoying at night where he constantly jumps onto the pillows and 'paws' (with claws!) my girlfriends head/hair - probably woke us up over 10 times last night. Annoying cos we can't lock him out without locking out the other too, which would be a shame because he just lies at the bottom of the bed all night without even moving, out of the way just all curled up
House training is really good with them though, hoping to let them out in a couple of weeks from now (having the catflap fitted this weekend) and they actually use their scratching post now! woooo
