Car Insurance Excess Query

Hi Hope someone can help with this.

My wife is renewing her car insurance. The car is old and only worth about £500.

Third party quotes are around £600. Fully comp with excess of £650 are around £350.

If crashed we wouldnt claim on insurance but my question is if my wife is in a crash and she is responsible - would the excess have to be paid towards fixing the other persons car?

Thanks in advance (and hope that makes sense)

    In a word no,

Excess is only payable by you if you make a claim to mend your car on your insurance.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Nope, excess is only paid if you claim for the damage to your car. I insure my DOD car for him, it's worth maybe £200 and the cheapest insurance this year was fully comp with the biggest excess available (think it was £1k).

Fully comp often has other benefits like glass & recovery after an accident
  • thanks - i thought that was the case but needed to double check before pressing the 'pay' button :)

thanks for the quick replies also

don't forget to see if you can get further reduction by increasing the voluntary excess, as I said earlier my DOD has an excess about five times what the car is worth
