Help: Bankruptcy & Borrowing!

Options
I took personal bankruptcy in March 2008 and since opened a joint account with my (new) husband - I have just heard that now his credit reports could be affected - is this true? We desperately want a new sofa(!!) but don't know if we can get credit - rather nervous of being turned down on a shop floor for such a huge purchase. Are there any decent cards/loans about for such cases? Ironically we're better off now so are able to pay back easily. We would want to pay a card off each month.

Well if you've opened a joint account you'll be linked financially so it will have an impact on his rating.

Decent cards and loans aren't ten a penny for poor credit I'm afraid, you might be better off saving for it if you could pay it off easily. You can financially seperate yourselves but I have no idea how easy or feasible it once you opened a joint account.

Quick get your husband to take you off his credit report as a financial associate, if not your husband might struggle to get a blockbuster membership card as they might think he may bring the DVD back 5 days late and don't bother to pay the charges..

Yep your "issues" will have an impact on his ability to buy an over priced sofa from DFS or some other bunch of furniture shysters.

  • Ha ha star-fire - that amused me! It's no big deal I know - life is so much better since banktruptcy - no debt, no worry and no nutcase ex - I'll stick to the garden furniture we're currently sitting on!
  • I have no desire to use such horrendous places - was just trying to get a quick way out of sitting on garden furniture! Saving is the way forward!

Try Gumtree, Freecycle or similar, people pay horrendous amounts for this tat, get bored before they even touch paying the finance off, rush out and get another equally ghastly thing and need to get rid of the older one for a song :D

The op should also check the local laybys, skips and dumpsters for milk crates. Back as a student, they made excellent funriture.

    All our furniture was donated.

There's a great store in the industrial estate called Steptoes here, not luxury stuff but fit for purpose and cheap as chips. Picked up a king size devan and matress for 50 notes.

    Perfect!
