Canon or Epson

Can anyone recommend a cheap and economical inkjet printer for my daughter who is a student.
I know that Epson and Canon cartridges have the cheapest ink cartridges.
And do you know of any special offers at the moment on such printers.
Kind regards
Clare

I always buy Canon gear as it's so good. The Canon bubble jet printers are very quick and quiet compared to many other makes.

I would certainly recommend a printer that can take individual ink tanks as then you need only buy the single colour that runs out, rather than replace a multi-colour cartridge just because one colour has run out.
  • I don't know about Canon, but I've had two Epson printers and would never buy another one, they have absolutely never worked properly, with awful print quality and it wouldn't accept my non-Epson ink cartridges.

A bad point about epsons at least a few years ago was that the print heads were situated in the printer itself so that when they began to deteriorate you had to remove replace it. Not worth the trouble when printers are so cheap. Canons have printheads in the cartridges themselves so that they would be replaced each time you changed the cartridge. This way it cost more to buy new ink but at least you did not have to throw the printer away.

epson r200 is a great printer with cheap compatible ink.

When you buy a printer, work out how much its gonna cost you for replacement ink and figure that into the equation.

A Canon might be £10 or £20 cheaper but could work out £5-10 more expensive for ink. Replacing the ink could cost you any savings that you may have thought you made.
  • I've always used Canon but I've just had two go down with the black ink not working at all !! Looks like there might a problem at the mo as these were two differant model using differant inks. Canon 'help line' was a compleate wast of time.
I'm looking to switch to Epson...
  • I have owned 3 epsons, 2 of them being the big A3 printers. Nothing but hassle. Got a Canon now, works great all the time, every time. More economical for inks as well with individual chambers.

  • I would not buy epson due to constant irritations, nothing major but always having to fiddle with it before it worked. I have has cannon and had no problems at all. I am using a lexmark now because it came free with the computer and that is good too.

I'd go for the one with cheapest ink personally. Looked at the price of inkrite catridges on ebuyer.com for the printer your interested in.
