I have had a problem with intermittent signal break up on my sky freesat. A bit like you get in very heavy rain. Anyhow I think it's the scart lead which connects the TV to the digibox. The connectors look tarnished plus the heavy cable was possibly dragging it down a bit. Replacement with a thinner spare (but with shiny pins!) seems to have fixed it for now.
I don't want to replace my elderly TV and even older digibox until absolutely necessary. Bearing in mind it's not exactly a high end system, is it worth spending money on expensive scart leads in the future? What should I look for? Cheers.

Its worth spending about £3 on a bog standard scart lead.... alternatively as most new equipment is HDMI you'll probably find alot of your friends/family/neighbours have a few spare they might be happy to virtually give away.

No it is not worth spending more than £3 odd on a short scart lead for an ancient TV for normal use.

if you avoid getting them wet they'll probably not corrode either

Save your money for when you're forced to upgrade

If you do decide to give a scart a go - the THOR scart is as good as they get for under 50 quid

This lead and plugs look as though they're not likely to gradually creep out of the Scart sockets...

[rant] What a brilliant piece of design the Scart socket is - no way of securing a plug with a thick cable exiting at right angles... [/rant]

i agree, not worth spending more on scart leads in this instance,

but are you sure it isn't signal related?
have you checked the signal strength/quality using the menu settings while the problem is on there?
I checked all that and the signal was fine. I was used to some problems with certain channels since the roofers nudged the satellite dish :( but then it started with the 'standard' channels... Also I had moved the TV and digibox and there was probably more pressure on the scart (which probably compounded any problem with the connection). Anyhow the other cable seems to have sorted it.
I guess it's a miracle that any of it works at all with my antique TV and digibox.
