This morning, I received a letter from Cabot Financial saying they were coming to visit me today. They haven't put any further details in this and I am unsure what it's about, but, by reading from other posts I think its a Barclaycard I held in 2005/2006 that I owe approx. £800 on.
I took out PPI on this, and, didn't make repayments after I was made homeless after my mum threw me out when I was pregnant. I wasn't in a very good place back then, I had depression, no family and all my efforts were concentrated on finding somewhere for me and my impending arrival to live. By the time I got my head straight (after having my baby, I suffered post-natal depression and it wasn't until they were nearly 2 that I got my bum into gear), this debt had been sold on.
Can I dispute it as I had PPI? Please help, I don't know what to do and have absolutely no spare money to pay this off until I have finished training (September) and got myself some work. Please advise as best as you can.
Thanks for all your help so far. I phoned them, they said it was for Barclaycard but the amount is over £1000?!?
They also said the account was defaulted in July 2007.
Is there anything I can do with the PPI or has it gone too far now?
Shall I get help from the Citizen's Advice or carry on playing a bat and ball game with them? As I say, I have no money until my training finishes and I get a job.

Phone them NOW and tell them you do not wish them to come round to your home and that any further dealings are to be in writing only. Don't let them bully you over the phone, should they try it on, just hang up after you've informed them of the above. If they still do come around, refuse them entry into your home, if possible, just keep the door closed and talk to them through the letterbox or similar. Tell them you do not wish to deal with them and that they have been informed that all dealings are to be in writing only. The second you let them into your home, they can charge extra fees and start seizing property, as long as you leave them on the doorstep, they can't really do anything without a court order. If they are difficult/refuse etc., tell them you'll call the police to have them removed from the property, without a court order, they have no legal right to be there, whatever they try to tell you. The police will favour you in this situation.AT NO POINT IN ALL OF THIS ACKNOWLEDGE THE DEBT IN ANY WAY.After all the messy stuff is done, write them a 'prove it' letter, just search for a template on these forums. Even if they can prove the debt is yours, by the time they have all the paperwork sorted, the debt might be statute barred as you say it's possibly from 2005 (it might even be barred already).Good luck !!!0

Couldn't agree more with what tazzman is telling you; play it cool, don't acknoweldge anything (try not to get drawn into a conversation as they'll trip you up if you're not careful; even acknowledging you held a card will give them an "in") and insist on communication by post only. If it's that old, they may be just trying a last ditch attempt to get something back before it's barred
Good luck0 -
Let them come and then tell them to get stuffed.
Make noises out the letterbox at them, do a selection of 80s hits. They have no more right to visit your house than a weasel."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -
Did they tell you they were going to come and visit you? Or that someone would 'call' at your house? The 'call' at your house thing is to make you scared and ring thinking someone will come round when really they mean someone will ring you.0
