Road Works until 1am??!

Options
Ahhh rant rant rant!

I live in a residential area and last night at 11pm they decided to start digging up the pavement with some petrol based nightmare-tool! Why oh why would they do that?? It went on until gone 1am.

To add insult to injury the road works are still there this morning so it's not like they were doing it at that time to clear them overnight.

I need sleep!!:o on the plus side BF was sleeping happily through it so I woke him up just to make sure my misery was shared!

    Possibly a gas leak.

You'd probably have noticed if it was a water leak serious enough for such urgent action.

It must have been an emergency; I can't believe that councils would pay the inevitably high rates needed to get someone to do routine work at that time!

As an aside, periodically we get someone blowing the leaves and dirt out of the gutters in advance of the little road sweeping thing coming along and sucking it all up. It's a mighty loud blowy thing they use... at six in the morning!

Our council does, usually if the works only going to take a couple of days and it means the road can stay open in the day, but they do usually let people living nearby know in advance

Tell me about it! Good lord I get driven to dispair by those damn road sweepers, despite the name 'road sweepers' my local lot drive them on the pavement! Of course where I live everyone keeps thier bins on the street so a man walks down the road at some god awful time, throwing the bins around into the road so the road sweeper can drive down the pavement.

Noisey and dangerous, its terrible - cars having to dodgy hundreds of wheelie bins and the pedestrians who end up having to jump into the road because of the damn road sweeper takes up the whole pavement.

And to make it even better they seem to do it several times a day, normally once incredibly early, once around mid-day and then again late at night! How often our pavement needs sweeping Ive no idea - would have thought of better uses for tax payers money

I work in construction and have spent too many nights digging up roads at 4am :(

If it makes you feel better we do it at that time so not to inconvenience the travelling public. But if they started at 11pm it does sound like it was an emergency.
  • The noisiest, latest, agonisingly loud roadworks not accompanied by 30 foot high geysers of water are always gas leaks. You would be more distressed if the house opposite exploded and sent its front door through your living room window.

I sympathise - it is incredibly noisy when it happens. But it isn't for fun or just to drive you insane with lack of sleep.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Be grateful - my street hasn't been swept in the (almost) 3 years I've been here.

Do you live on a traffic sensitive road ?
