My new Credit Card has an account number of 00000000. Is this correct? Not tried it yet but seems strange

Is that on the card itself? It sounds like the company's holding account number to me. Aren't credit card numbers always 16 digits long? But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Yea. My friends owes me some money so wanted to pay into onto my credit card. Halifax ask for an account number and not the long card number when setting up a payment
So if he uses the 00000000 as the account number, with the banks sort code will it get to me?0 -

Aha, we're not actually talking about the specific credit card number (i.e. that of the CC account itself), but rather the bank account that Halifax uses to route payments towards that credit card account - in other words you (or your friend) pays Halifax some money, and they then route it towards your credit card account.
00000000 might be a valid account number for doing this (if it says so on your CC statement), but if you look at the Halifax website here (remove space to reconstruct link)...
www. halifax.co.uk/creditcards/carduseandmaintenance.asp
...it suggests the account number to use is 00213765 (with sort code 80-20-45). It's possible that both account numbers are in use.
Do note however that you (or in this case your friend) must provide your 16 digit credit card number as the reference when making this payment, otherwise Halifax won't know which of their gazillions of cc accounts the payment should be allocated towards (so it's worth double and indeed triple checking the right CC number is being used!).0 -
So when sending a payment to the card THREE pieces of information are vital.
the Account Number - in this case 00000000
the sort code, whatever it is - xx-xx-xx
and the reference which is the 16 digit card number. No spaces, no letters, just the 16 digits on the card. Verbatim.
The reference is the bit that ensures the funds credit your card and not someone else's.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Agree with izools, if this is too confusing, then just ask him to send to your current account the traditional way for you to pay your credit card. Once payments are lost in the system, it's a pain to get back!0

hi
I look after my mothers finances since she had a stroke part of which is paying her credit card each month. the Tesco card gets paid into an account number which is all zero's as well if it helps.0 -
your T&Cs or the CC statement will show the different ways to pay... which usually includes how to pay by BACS so includes their sort code and a/c number0

My first suggestion would be to get your friend to transfer the money into your bank account and then pay it off your credit card yourself. However, if you're determined to get your friend to put the money directly into your credit card then it may be more straight forward to get him / her to make a debit card payment from their debit car to your credit card (rather than a bank transfer). Halifax accept debit card payments to their credit cards through the RBSWorldpay system. The most straight forward way to do this is through your online banking (assuming you have set this up)0

On the back of the monthly statement there will be a section where it states the different ways of paying. It is usually under 'via internet banking'. It will state a generic sort code and account number and then on the reference is where you state your Mother's credit card number so they can allocate payment.0
