iPod recommendation please

I don't have an MP3 player (now or ever) as I don't really like to plug myself into music - I'd rather listen to it aloud.

Anyway, my old CD player is on it's last legs and good new ones have really increased in price since I last bought one. I play ambient sounds (rainfall and stuff) at night to help me sleep and so the player is on about 8 hours per night, every night.

I thought I might move with the times and get an iPod and docking station as most portable players seem to be geared towards plugging in an MP3 player anyway and Apple seems to dominate the market.

Which one would you recommend - I won't use the player during the day to listen to music but I want a version that is compatible with the generic docking stations that are now everywhere. I also want the model to be able to play a track on repeat all night......

I'd be grateful for any ideas on which ipod and which docking station - I need help as there is just too much choice.......

Thanks
:hello:

If it has to be an ipod get a second hand 2nd generation nano, that will do.

Not a fan of ipods myself but if you feel you must.....

    I've been Money Tipped!
I just want something that I can load up, plug into a docking station that has a mains power supply and will play on a loop for 8 hours on the trot.

I'm open to suggestions on the make - the only reason I'm leaning towards Apple is that most stuff seems to be aimed at the iPod market.

I know this sounds dumb but do all mp3 players have the same connection to allow them to use the generic docking stations or do iPods have a different connection?

I agree with Dazzadub. My grandson has an iPod something and he also watches films on it and has loads of photos. He can also go on the Internet. So I guess it depends on what you're looking for. Just music or more? And yes more means more expensive.

ipods have a completely different propriety Apple connector, and many docking stations are made specifically for Apple products.

You should be able to pick up a second hand ipod, of an older generation, fairly cheaply.

It will do what you want.

You will need a way of getting your music onto the ipod but need not necessarily use itunes if you don't wish to.
