Inalienable Benefits

Hi, I am looking for more information on Inalienable Benefits and exactly what this covers. Today my bank took £50 of charges from my Tax Credits leaving me in financial hardship.
When I went into the bank I was advised that the bank can take money to cover charges from any deposits made into the account, when I explained I had no money to cover topping up my electricity meter, cover the cost of my 3 childrens lunches, travel to work etc.
I was advise that they would sanction a small payment to cover these amounts, but it would cost me, the amount they would give me would be taken back when my wages hit my account and also a daily charge of £25.
To say the least I was stunned by this as it would only set me into even more financial hardship. I was advised that this was the only option as they were not willing to refund the charges. I am at my wits end as to what to. I have heard that some Benefits fall into the category of inalienable benefits, but it is unclear as to whether tax credits are included in this.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Please be aware that you have to notify your bank in writing in advance of any credits to your account, try googling for template letters and more information on the subject.0
