I called them out a couple of weeks ago when the car wouldnt start. Not turning over or making any sound at all.

First bloke came out and said that the key had 'unprogrammed itself' to the car and gave me the number of a locksmith who could programme it back.

Did he try to jump start it with the leads?
Locksmith came out, paid $45 call out fee, locksmith said it wasnt the key because the key light would have been flashing if so, and it was 'steady on' so it was something else.

    Not your lucky day

I think so, I think he did all the usual checks with meters and whatnot. Because originally we thought it was the battery, I cant remember to be honest. Have I also paid for a new fuse box that I didnt need too (along with Nissan's hourly labour rate),,, it gets worse.

Let's assume he tried to jump start it and it failed, so his conclusion wasn't a bad one, but maybe a little bit too much of a leap of imagination, because I would have thought it highly unlikely to have been the key losing it's code or the car losing it's code for the key, I mean, how often does **that** happen?

The second guy probably got it right, i.e. it was the fuse box, because getting it changed by Nissan fixed it, and it was logical as the wipers did not work. However it might be some weird intermittant fault you have, but these things are always difficult to track down.

You need to rely on turning your own lights out in future and not expect the car to do it automatically, no matter what the car is 'supposed' to do. As long as they *do* turn off when you switch them off, and they turn on when you want them to, and they don't turn themselves on when you're asleep in bed, there's no problem.

well, we're joint membership and ive used 3 since august when we renewed, but if it came to it i would dispute one of those due to the misdiagnosis of the key thing as its quite right that a) the key indicator did not indicate that it was the key and b) the chances are low of it being that

You might want to call customer service and ask that they delete the first one from your allowance, because the diagnosis was wrong and ended up costing you a call out fee for the locksmith - if you do it now, you won't be trying to explain all of this to them when you need that final free call out later in the year.
