Any advice please, coming off JSA

Good evening all,

My OH and I are trying to come off JSA (after 6 months) but feel a bit helpless at the lack of assistance at the JC. We are told they are not trained in the benefits and the main benefit office we rang for help would not answer what they said were 'hypothetical' questions!

Basically, we are trying to find out how our benefits would be affected if we became self employed. Currently, we are on income based JSA, housing and council tax benefit and child tax credits (one child at home). We are so scared of losing the ability to pay for our rented house but we want to work and we have some really good ideas for little businesses, not major stuff, but a chance to do some work for ourselves and get a little respect back and take control of our lives a little.

Anbody got any advice about how we can find out the actual potential figures and what we can earn while setting up any business without being worried sick about eviction because HB is stopped, for instance.

Thanks a million. Tabs
