Lawn feed in bulk

Can anyone recommend somewhere - maybe groundkeeper company etc - to buy lawn feed in bulk. Need rather a lot for my lawn, and I'll go bust if I have to buy it in small boxes!

Many thanks

    Firstly, do you really need to feed your lawn? Feeding just means more mowing. I've never fed mine in 10 years plus and it's fine.

    If you do want the extra mowing for that lush green look, there's plenty of home made solutions for a DIY high nitrogen lawn feed;

    * If you have fish, the old water and gunk from them is high in nitrogen and can be poured over the lawn.
    * Pee is fairly high in nitrogen and could be watered down to make a feed.
    * You can rot down plant waste and weeds in water for a high nitrogen feed. I just stuff all mine in a water butt to break down. It also rots roots and seeds that would regrow if put in a heap.

    Fair comment, and normally I wouldn't bother, but it's currently looking a bit manky after mole invasion, vole invasion, grotty snow weather, new puppy etc etc etc. Also, it's not just about the nitrogen - think the P and K make a difference... not too fussed about the N as my mower mulches the cuttings down into the lawn.

    Nitrogen is obviously the main requirement for leafy grass, but fair enough.

    K's easy enough to find. Comfrey or wood ash.

    P's the trickiest. Bone, which is a tad unpractical. I'd go for either Borage, or smash some rocks up and use the dust in the fertiliser.

    Having said that, sounds like the best thing you can do for it, is fence it off from the puppy for a while to recover.

    Try pitchcare.com

    This was where I bought the last lot of fertiliser for our lawns. Cost £46 for two 25kg bages including delivery for enough professional grade fertiliser to treat 1,000 sq. metres. (Haven't got the exact application rate to hand but it was something in the middle of the recommended applicaton rate.)

    (I used Scotts Sportsmaster Fertiliser Autumn 4 + 12 +12 and used it after our lawns turned to crisp in last years dry weather and was really pleased with the results.)

    Apart from saving on quantity another advantage of buying from 'trade' suppliers over using 'retail' packs is you can get the correct proportions of nutrients for your problem for the correct time of year.

    Otherwise try any local agricultural / farm / equestrian store.
