Urgent! New Barclaycard Platinum Error!

Hello
Wondering if you could help me again please?
This month I opened up a Barclaycard Platinum credit card online. 0% Balance Transfer and 0% on spending, both for 12 months.
Did a Balance Transfer from my Virigin credit card for a few hundred pounds last week and used the card yesterday to book a hotel which was a couple of hundred pounds. So all in all, the total doesn't even equate to £800, and that's including the Balance Transfer fee and pending transactions.
However, having checked my Barclaycard account online, I have discovered £1400odds on the card, pending transactions! No way is this correct! I'm actually quite worried and shocked!
Phoned them up last night and they said to wait 48 hours, see what the online accounts shows and then call them back.
A statement was generated today, with nothing on it, so I can't find out where all this "extra spending" on the card comes from.
The 48 hours is up tomorrow night.
How could this be? Do you think this a fault with the hotel or Barclaycard themselves?
Thanks from a very worried person.

The only people who can tell you is Barclaycard.0

it is common practise for hotels to take significatly more than the room rate.. they may have "reserved" a few hundred pounds on the card incase of any extras you may consume during your stay (room service, minibar etc etc).
until actual charges materialise on your bill, i wouldn't worry about it too much.. it's frustrating if you need the additional credit that has been reserved, but there's little you can do..0 -
is the balance transfer showing up yet? for some bizarre reason whenever you do a balance transfer to a barclaycard, they put the transfer through twice! i've had this happen to me and it took me a few hundred over my limit but it sorted itself out after a couple of days and i didn't get charged as it was only a pending transaction.0

Apparently not in this case.
jo-bo has it. There's a strange "alice in wonderland" period with Barclaycard where the BT shows up twice. I've even had dire warnings when I've logged on to say I'm overlimit. It clears in a few days.
If you simply booked a hotel online, then they should not have put through anything more than the amount on the screen - like any other trader. However on check-in, they'll often ask to swipe a card so they can "reserve" some credit to be sure you can pay the bill on check-out. This can be much more than is really needed. Also when you pay on check-out, it might not cancel the original amount. However the excess over the amount you actually paid should drop off the account within a few days (as long as 2 weeks in my experience).0 -
Hello all
Thanks for all the helpful information!
I didn't make the 48 hour phonecall to Barclays and instead chose to wait an extra few working days to see if it cleared itself. And it did! BT has went through fine and the hotel amount is not showing as yet.
I have another question but shall put that on a thread of its own!
Thanks again all.0 -

Is it? I have never booked a hotel over the years that took any money other then what was demanded for the room, so would be interested to know where this common practice takes place, and how it can be justified or even legal to do so!!
They may keep the card details so that on booking out, any room service or mini bar is paid for if you do a bunk, but you are suggesting £600 for mini bar and room service paid in advance is normal!
OP, when I spotted £1100 online pending with my Barclaycard Platinum which was nothing to do with me, I rang them immediately and they stopped the card straight away. They could see where the fraud had occured and that it was nothing to do with me. I am surprised they are saying to wait 48 hours as normally they come down like a ton of bricks on any concerns and stop cards working at the slightest whiff of fraud.
I would suggest keeping all records of who ie the name, time date etc, and what you are being told to do until the money is resolved.

Actually, I can understand what you have said about hotels. Whenever I've booked a hotel, they have never reserved as much money as hundreds of pounds! Once it was about £30 I think when I went away with my friend (her credit card) but every other time they have just taken the amount stated.
Thankfully the balance on the Barclaycard seems to have sorted itself out as said above, but perhaps I will give them a call just to be sure everything is as it should be.
Thanks for your input.0
