Who to blame??

Options
In November i paid my my high interest Capital One account of £1200 off with 0% interest Barclays card deal,i did this over the phone when i started the card off,but 10 days later when the money had not arrived at Cap one, i contacted Barclaycard and when they read out the number of the Cap one account that they had paid the money into, it was nowhere near my number, now Barclaycard are saying this is the number that i gave them(the number i gave them came from my statement).
Now after many phone calls i am getting nowhere, i have the account number that the money was paid into from Capital One,they are saying take it up with them, as the money was paid into this account and withdrawn by cheque 3 days later, how can i take it up with them as it is only a account number, i have no name and address,i have been a victim of fraud but no one is listening, every time i phone either Barclaycard or Capital One, i am on the phone for up to an hour, and have to explain it all from the start.
What do i do next, as this looks like theft to me and instead of £1200 i now have £2400 dept.

  • Ask Barclaycard for a copy of the recording that they made of your original telephone call. They may not actually have a recording but the request might un-nerve them.

Raise a formal written complaint with both companies detailing:

    > What the problem is

    > What you have done so far in an attempt to resolve it

    > What you expect them to do to resolve the matter

Be detailed, concise, and supply sufficient information without supplying irrelevant information.

I believe this is Barclaycard's responsibility to resolve but Capital One may be able to reverse the transaction.

Don't mention in the letters you send what you expect the other company to do - this is irrelevant and a easy get out clause for them. Just mention what you want them to do (play them off against each other essentially).

I would be inclined to include a sworn affidavit that you provided account number xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx to Barclaycard, not the one they recorded, when you write to them.

  • They said they have listened to the recording, and the wrong number is the one i gave them so i have requested the copy of the tape which will cost £10, which now seemingly has been lost.
The first half of the card number is the same as the one i gave them, but the last half are no where near my numbers
