Hi all,
can anyone help? we are looking at buying an american style fridge freezer which needs to be plumbed to a cold water supply (for ice maker & cold water dispensor) Vendor says it comes with 3m metres of pipe, but I read somewhere it needs to be 1m from the water supply? does anybody know the truth and are there any pitfalls to be aware of??

The one's i have fitted come with 1mtr flexible pipe 10mm
Always best to pipe up in 15mm as close as possable, as then you will be able, if needed to pull the fridge out with the flexible pipe
Correct way to pipe-up mains feed( not tank feed),15 mm stoptap or ballofix, 15mm double check valve DCV, 15mm inline strainer, then reduce down to either 10/8mm(depends on your fridge).0 -
i think the '1 metre' comes from the fiting. Dixons/Comet etc guys will only fit if less that 1m away from water supply - any further and you have to arrange your own fitting
Have a look at this longish thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=164140&pp=10&highlight=currys+fridge
it highlights some of the pro's/cons of the american fridge (albeit specifically a samsung model - but should still be helpful)
I do like mine, and the ice machine is constantly in use - was a godsend in summer!! Would also check the price of filters before you buy, i was shocked to find DSG charge over £50 for my particular model - Although you can get it online for £12

Thanks plumb one, sounds more complicated than I had anticipated, we are moving to a new house with a fitted kitchen - the space for the fridge freezer looks to be about 3m from the sink (if you were to run a pipe under the units) do you think installing one with the feed being this long would affect the functionality?0 -
LA Thanks, am ploughing my way through it now, it was a samsung we are looking at.0

No it will be ok, just take the kickplates off, and put the pipe under the units. but have the isolation valve in a cubboard for easy acess.0
