Stupid statement from Nationwide

"Your card reader will make things easier for you to sign on as you won't have to enter any of your memorable data."

Of course it will.

I can type my memorable data in less than 5 seconds.

With the card reader, I have to find the reader, find the card, work out which buttons to press, type in my PIN then copy the number over. A lot longer than 5 seconds :p

Identify, respond and sign. I've got a reader where these buttons are just icons.

    plus your pin,

    plus enter,

plus whatever number they give you to enter.

thank you need to type that number into the browser

Smile bank have now got a notice on the screen after logging in to the effect that the card reader will not be necessary when the transfer requested is obviously safe...or words to that effect. Since then they have not asked for it and any transfers I have done had been to other banks or financial institutions.

I really did dislike using it and can only assume that a lot of other customers did too.

Hopefully this will eliminate the (unnecessary) use of the Card Reader every time a payment is made to an existing payee... (the battery life of these things is shorter for Nationwide customers I expect)
