Mobility Scooters - Ripping off the Disabled

Hi all,
I just wanted to warn people about ripoffs concerning mobility scooters even by so called "[STRIKE]reputable[/STRIKE]" companies.
I rang up Road Knight on the web to enquire about their mobility scooters advertised at about £500 which is a good deal. I was told that they did not sell directly off the Internet (which they do) and I had to have a home visit by their sister company Willowbrook who would have similar scooters at comparable prices???
I wanted a home visit anyhow to test out the scooters offered which were not the same as the ones advertised on the Internet by Road Knight. After a soft sell and the testing of the scooter (no prices in the brochure) I was offerred a sale price after a discount because I had come through Road Knight of £1500! After saying I couldn't afford that a phone call was made to Head Office to see if something could be arranged. The price came down to £1000 for an ex-demonstration model. I told the salesman I would think about it.
Why are Road Knight who are part of the famous Bath Knight company that has advertised on TV for ages indulging in practises like these towards the disabled?
It seems that even well known brands are now part of rip off Britain. I will be making a complaint to Trading Standards.

Hi,
Apparently I cannot post links as I am a new user (this site blocked me from doing so). But I can't think though why you were blocked. I have never had a problem with the website.
It is their main website on the scooter section.

Mobility scooters tend to appear very regularly on the secondhand market as people have less use for them with time - you can save a fortune. For instance there's 10 being sold off secondhand for £139 apiece on ebay just now, and they're not the cheapest flimsiest ones either.0

They're not the only ones to jump on the bandwagon of ripping off the disabled. We've got a stairlift for my mum and a callout charge from Stannah is £180!0
