Can I charge my bank ?

In September I opened 2 regular savings a/c.s with seperate institutions. I made the first payment in cash and set up a standing order for the remainder, the first payments to be made by standing order during October. I had allowed 15 working days for the standing orders to be set up.
Glancing at my current a/c. last week, I noticed that I was unusually affluent to the tune of £250. Closer inspection revealed that 1 of the standing orders had not been paid. When I queried it at the bank, I was told to complete another S.O. instruction as "You couldn't have handed it in". I know that I did submit it because I had handed both of them in at the same time and 1 HAD been paid.
I asked them to check their records, they explained that they would do this but it may take some time as the original documents are stored centrally off site.
Today I received a phone call from them to say that, yes they had found the original form and yes, the first payment should have been made on the 16th of October (there were sufficient cleared funds in my a/c.) but no, they hadn't got the vaguest idea why it hadn't.
They did offer to make a double payent for me this month but I explained (as all regular savers will know) a maximum monthly payment is applicable. I also pointed out that due to their omission, I am likely suffer a pecuniary loss.
Between me and you it's 250 quid for 11 months at 6% less tax which I reckon is roundabout 11 quid.
It is fortunate for me that the regular saver a/c. in question (Scarborough) allows for a "payment holiday"
My question is, if my bank has to write to me to tell me that I have not operated my a/c. satisfactorily, I will be charged £30 for the priviledge. If I have to notify them of same, is £30 a reasonable sum for me to charge ?

In this case I think so.
You have or will suffer a financial loss and I don't think £30 is unreasonable given the circumstances you have stated.0 -
It would appear that I was understating my losses, they have just offered me an ex gratia payment of £50. Deal or no deal ? I'm not going to be greedy, deal.0

If you have internet access to your bank, its much better to set these things up yourself. Then you can check its been done correctly by someone who is competent.0

Don't mean to be funny, but I'm amazed they offered £30. They're only obliged to make up your financial loss, which as you said was about £11. I'd definately take it!0

sorry i meant £500

"Don't mean to be funny".
You be as funny as you like Turtle, I'm laughing all the way to the bank.0
