CV writing services - worth it?

Sent my CV off for a review (cost £20) and they said it needed redoing.
Its £150 to get it redone by them. Anyone else ever used a service like this? If so, is it worth it?
I work in IT so the jobs I apply for are rather high end....

I would not pay £150 at ALL for it.
Part of my business is writing CVs and I would never dream of charging that amount. Find another company or get a friend who works in recruitment / IT HR to review it for you. Large companies like this tend to have a 'set' way of reviewing and just do the same thing to every CV.
Just my opinion, obviously...!!!
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
there are ads on ebay for cv writing services-some of the people advertising seem highly qualified-worth a look and much cheaper than £150GE 36 *MFD may 2043

A CV reviewing company is hardly likely to say 'no, your CV is perfect', are they?
Sounds like a con0 -
Well what does the service offer? I tailor my CV for each job application which if you do would seem to make this service rather useless. There's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.0 -
Many places offer a free review so I would never pay anyone £20 just to do that. Also the price quoted is high, I'd definitely shop around if you do want someone else to do it for you.0

If they guarantee a job within a few months or your money back then go for it.Wanted a job, now have one. :beer:0

Sorry but thats so funny!
For someone appling for 'high end' jobs i'd have though you would be a bit more savvy.
£20 to have it checked....£150 for someone to copy it to a template! Uberlol!!0 -
In a moment of weakness and desperation to seek work they found the offer of a CV checking service for £20, and paid hoping it might improve their prospects. I suspect they were unaware of the £150 charge to "fix" the CV until they said.Empty_pockets wrote: »£20 to have it checked....£150 for someone to copy it to a template!
People out there are desperate for work. People out there are desperate to make money and happy to pretty much scam people. Makes for a bad world out there!
To the OP for IT I would probably look towards a skills type cv like this http://www.prospects.ac.uk/assets/assets/documents/CV_skills_2010.pdf but you obviously need to sell your IT skills, and put those at the top. Hope this helps.Wanted a job, now have one. :beer:0 -

If you work in the high end of IT then what your experience should carry more weight if you are savvy enough to format your CV to today's search requirements. I also work in IT but I would not pay £150 to have mine written up.
I will re-write yours for free but any job that you get of the back of it then I want 10% of your salary for 6 months ;o)))0 -
I have been quoted £250 and £599 (excl VAT) for CV services recently!!
I found a number of free CV review services knowing that their comments would be a combination of sales driven points but also would include some useful snippets.
Of the 3 I selected there were a number of direct contradictions but at least I got some useful comments and have amended my CV accordingly.0
