send and receive in Hotmail

Probably a stupid question, but I have a new Hotmail account and I can't send and receive (i.e no update inbox button). I understand it might be called sync, but still no button. It's receiving and sending OK but in it's own time automatically. Help please

  • Hotmail will always update as soon as it gets an email - there is no need to sync anything unless you are linking it to outlook.

there is no need for a send/receive function on it.

as above if you are using the webmail interface then there is no need to ever 'send/recieve'

but if you really want to next to the 'print' icon there are 2 blue arrows in a circle that is refresh button to check for mail right then and there (but it will only save you a few seconds before hotmail would have automatically shown you the new email)

I've linked Windows Live Mail with it, but that's not the problem as I'm Ok sending and receiving with that.
So can I run my new understanding past you.
I'm on an expensive mobile broadband link, so regards Windows Live I'm right in expecting to be able to control send/receive, because it costs me money to be downloading ?

But with the Hotmail component it downloads when it feels like it, but I have no cause for concern because until I open up an email/attachment there is no cost involved (other than being online in the first place !) ?
I am a longstanding user of Yahoo (only changed because I couldn't link to Windows Live) and that works by "forcing" send and receive.
  • Why not try Thunderbird, set up your account to just download headers only(you can get the rest if you decide to open it), plust set it up not to automatic check.
