If faulty goods replaced, does warranty get renewed?

About 10 months ago my OH bought a pump for our fish pond. Being the sensible type he had kept the reciept and today returned the faulty pump to the shop. They happily replaced the product, so no problems there!
A small discussion then ensued... The manageress advised him to keep his original receipt as this stated the date of (manufacturers) warranty on it and that it was due to expire in 2 months time. My OH argued that as he had been given a brand new product, that new product should have its own warranty/guarantee for another year. Otherwise this new product would only have two months warranty and could well become faulty beyond that time, as the original one has.
The question is, who is correct? If a product is replaced, is the replacement only covered for as long as the original warranty/guarantee, or should the new product be covered for a year from the date it replaced the faulty product.
Any references/quotes would be useful if you have them
Thanking you in anticipation...

No, they have given you a working item for the one year warranty period. Think about it, take it back every 11 months for a lifetime warranty. If they had refunded it and sold another one then that would be a different situation. You may have extended protection under SOGA but that would apply if the item was replaced or not.0

It depends where you shop and how they handle items.
Dixons/PcWorld/Currys all use the same system, so long as the receipt is less then 1 year then no problem, (depending on item either exchange, refund or replace) and it doesn't matter if you purchased 1 set of headphones 5 years ago and it failed 11 months in, Dixons Retail would swap (or your could pick a different one) and if that failed in 5 months the process repeats.0 -
I must admit, I've always kept receipts from PC World and they were fantastic at replacing items, and even once went as far as to give me a better item as a replacement after a router I bought failed 3 times in 16 months!0

I bought a home network plug from Amazon and it failed after 6 months or so. Amazon sent a replacement and that failed after 9 months. Amazon maintained that the warranty was 12 months from the date of the original purchase though after some negotation they refunded me the original purchase amount (from 15 months previously) and I bought a new one.0

Surely if it is a manufacturers warranty then it is from the date of the new product.
If you have taken out insurance then that is different but if it is a warranty then it should start from the date you get the new one.Wedding 5th September 20150 -
A manufacture warranty can have what ever terms they like(within reason) on it as there no legal obligation for manufacture to give any kind of warranty. Some will be from original purchase dates other will be from replacement date.
Now under your statuary right under SOGA I've not got a clue.0 -
