Watching the figures in the sigs come down - and not just on mine, but on everyone else's too. I always love looking at those, and often find myself saying, like, WOW! :T

I'm waiting for the day when ALL of my wages will go to ME.

I'm waiting for the day when the unexpected big bill won't give me sleepless nights.

Because I'm in a FMP I already have cash left after everything is paid, that was such a great feeling, and most things are budgeted so if they don't happen, that's a bit more for the pot.

I'd like to see my mini cash ISA full. Just once.

The best bit about being debt free would not having to pray every time I need to get money out of the cash point, (even £10 for petrol to get to work) and stop being too frightened to check my balance, or dreading my bank statement..

  • Here are some benefits I missed today:

Getting the best deal on BT line rental for my phone. You have to pay for a whole year upfront.

Being able to travel home and see my parents and family. I dread being helpless if sudden illness or crisis strikes and I can't pay the fare to reach them.

Being able to help other people when they need money - like charities and, even more, individuals in desperate need right now.

The biggest benefit has hit me just this week - my job is likely to end in the Summer due to public spending cutbacks. Now, whilst it's never great to lose your job, I'm not in a huge panic because I have no debts, I have savings, because of my journey to become debt free I'm pretty frugal anyway but know that I can cut back further.

Good luck to those of you still on your journey - you'll get there!

  • For me it will simply be that I will no longer live from salary to salary, wishing the month away.

My old mother and I were having a chat about why the months seem to fly by so quickly. She believes that living from month to month makes it seem so much faster - one eye is always on the next payday, so much so that you get no enjoyment from the bit in the middle and you end up wishing a huge part of your life away.

Have to say I agree with her; I've lost count of the number of years that have passed now as I battle through the debt slog. Thankfully my DFD approaches and then I can start living again. :D

  • I've only been totally debt free for under a week :j:j(sorry still have to keep mentioning it as its not really sunk in properly yet) but when I think about the amount of post I used to get say this time last year - 6 credit card bills, and at least 3 or 4 extra letters offering deals, personal credit card cheques etc etc etc. I used to hate the sight of our postman and he's a really nice man, but I reckon he'll be thinking that I've moved house now with no bills and just a monthly bank statement to deliver.

I know this feeling will wear off but I look at my internet banking everyday just to see the balance and know that the vast majority of it will be winging its way into a savings account instead of various credit card payments.

I so love this new feeling:rotfl:
2013 - Finally got the house we' ve worked so hard to get......now it's a life of diy and no money....couldn't be happier 😊

This is so true! Just trying to 'last' until the next pay day, constantly counting down the days really does make time go a lot quicker. . . not necessarily a good thing if you want to sit back and enjoy life a bit!

When I am finally fully debt fee, being able to properly plan for the future, to think, 'hmmm, what can I/should I/do I want to save for' rather than having an uphill battle every month to just stay above water is what I'm REALLY looking forward to! :T
Now totally debt free & it feels better than anything money can buy!
Next stop - savings pot for house deposit :j

All of these are great, but for me the obvious one right now is that my husband was made redundant in May. It's been a very difficult time but since we were debt free we could instantly cut our spending as no rolling credit and interest to pay. We're pretty much only spending on necessities and as we have only a tiny mortgage (which we kept to have access to the overpayments if needed) my job is covering our outgoings.

I have a folder marked DEBT at home, I currently have three credit cards and one loan and I keep all the statements in this folder.

When I am debt free – (nearly there) I will burn that folder – I can’t wait!
In Jan 2007 I had a debt of £27,896.00
In October 2011 I paid it off and owned £0.00 - Kinda proud of this!:T
