Bonnet won't close

I have a MK1 focus and checked the oil yesterday. The bonnet wouldn't close afterwards It has done this before but after a bit of persistence I've managed to get it closed but not this time. The moving bits seem to be moving but the second latch won't keep hold of the bonnet only the first one. I assume that's how its supposed to work. I've put some wd40 on put still no joy.

It's due for a service so looks like i'll have to put it in early unless anyone here can offer any suggestions.

What's the worst case scenario if I can't get it closed? I have feeling it will be expensive to replace as you have to use the key to open the stupid thing

Have you tried closing it with the key still in? Turned to open and then try and lock it if you know what I mean.

thankyou genius_hunt Didn't work straightaway but after a few attempts there was a little click and then I pushed it shut. I dare not open it again!

Get the garage to give it a clean up when in for a service, it may be ok after that or may need replacing soon.
