Last Will & Testament

My mum always told me her Will was with Barclays Bank, Bolton. She died last October and I contacted them but they insisted they do not have it.
We have a copy but this was made prior to my brother passing away and I am sure she would have made another.
Barclays are of no help at all. What am I to do?

I think solicitors have some way of advertising to see if another solicitor has a copy of a will. Might be worth ringing a couple and see what they advise.0

Yes - solicitors will advertise in their trade journal for this purpose. Have you had a good look through her possessions for any evidence of a later will? Usually the solicitor or bank will give you a photocopy to keep with your financial papers so that people know where to look for the original. If nothing turns up and there is no evidence that a new will was ever made, the one you have a copy of will apply, notwithstanding the death of your brother.0

Barclays have not offered an in-branch document storage facility since the late 1990's. In about 1998 or 1999 all the documents stored at branches were cleared out and moved to a central storage facility. There was a small quarterly charge for storage of documents that appeared on statements as 'Barclaysafe - Standard Charge'. Maybe worth a try with Barclays Head Office if the Bolton branch staff know nothing about it.0
