Microsoft v Windows Defender?

For the past few days I get a message saying' Your computer is at risk.I click and look and find that the Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows defender are both 'off'.I have not done anything to my PC to cause this. Is it Windows Defender that is preventing MSE from performing?

Security Essentials does the job of Windows Defender and a whole lot more too. You shouldn't be running the two at the same time.

Security essentials is supposed to disable Windows Defender but it still might be causing problems. You should uninstall Windows Defender via Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs.

you cant uninstall it as it is built into the OS, you can only turn it off.

have you tried turning MSE back on? or reinstalling it?

Don't remove mbam, it's the best anti-malware product out there for general use. And it's on-demand, not real-time.

It has not been turned off! It just comes up as 'Off' on the security report so I just click it back on- so what can be disrupting the security stats?
