pension nomination?

my partner and i have been together for 16 years but not actually lived together for the past 15years! it suits us that way, well sometimes.
anyway, my question is,
can he nominate me to receive his pension on death?

Hi Molly,

As far as I'm aware I don't see why not - it's like him nominating his children etc who may not live with him. His pension benefits on death will be paid out to whomever is stated on his 'expression of wish' form, or failing that (if he doesn't complete one), any will that he leaves will be looked at and it may be paid out as part of his estate.

I only know about personal pension plans - whether it is one that his employer is contributing to or not. If it is, then yes definitely no problem. If something were to happen before his retirement then he could nominate you to receive all the monies that are in the fund.

If you are wanting something more complicated, like to receive a lifelong pension until your death,from his policy then I recommend he gets some advice from an independent financial advisor who specialises in pensions.
