I have been fired for gross misconduct, will i be able to get job seekers allowance?

I have recently been fired from my job for stealing (which i completely and utterly regret) and i now need to sign on the dole. Should i lie about why i am now unemployed or do i tell them i was fired and why?
I really really need the money as i have recently moved into my own house with my boyfriend and i have bills and what not. Will they let me have my jsa?

You won't get away with it, they'll contact your previous employer who'll spill the beans and then you'll be in an even deeper mess.

If your boyfriend is working, and you live together, its now up to him to support you both until you can claim or find another job.

I think it might be 26 weeks, but don't quote me on that. You'll probably need to sign on anyway to get your NI contributions.

I have been sacked in the past and signed on ok, so unless they have changed the rules in the last few yrs I wouldnt worry about it. The worst thing you could tell them is that you left voluntarily - in which case yr not eligible for JSA.

You wouldn't have got help with your mortgage anyway.

If your boyfriend works then you won't qualify for any benefits as you are regarded as one financial unit so he'll be expected to keep you.
As for sanctioning -you'll probably have to wait for JSA -the time you need to wait as you'll be considered as having lost your job through your own actions is a discressionary period -you'll only find out how long after you apply for JSA so best to apply as soon as possible. Lying won't work -as they do check with your previous employer -and dishonesty doesn't seemed to have served you very well so far anyway so probably better to be honest and then move forward again.
