HELP! Three won't cancel my mobile BB!

The story starts last year - I had 2 out of term contracts (1Gb/£5 & 3Gb/£7.50) so I called to cancel (i.e. see what they offered, happy to cancel if it came to it & use 3GB sims off ebay). Well, the offer/hard sell/lies depending how you look at it worked & I decided to keep my 3GB/£7.50 contract for 12 months, getting a free E1750 super modem, available free to special customers only, with 2 antennas (I stupidly asked if this meant 1 to receive & 2nd to scan for a better signal - he agreed of course). The modem was nothing special & did nothing for signal quality at work/in-laws.

This year, I called to cancel, content to use the 24GB sim I had got for the wife, possibly buying a £50 mifi dongle to aid this. The retentions guy was a gem - said the guy last year should not have given me the E1750 as it didn't take advantage of their upgraded network - offered a free award winning, universally loved, 4G mifi dongle with 32GB internal storage! I learnt from last year & asked if I could have the model (E585), check and call back the next day - shock horror it was his very last ever shift!!! But as luck would have it he could call me back later - we had a protracted what time it is in the UK/call me at 7pm in 5 hours agreement - he called in 3 hours at 5PM, but did call back at 7, unfortunately... having found that 4G isn't yet possible, the 32GB is a possible figure, not included (which he insisted he had told me). I said no, I just want to cancel (quite silly really when he pointed out that I may have a kid in the next 18 months, who could use mifi to play his PSP, presumably from his cot:rotfl:)! I specifically asked when it would be cancelled - I was told 23rd December.

I tried the sim over christmas -I expected it to be dead, but no, it connected - sure enough there was a bill for 23rd December - 22 Jan. Of course they couldn't help over christmas as the other department was closed!!! Tried again & spent over an hour on the phone, speaking to one guy who hung up while he was speaking!!! They had a record of my first call (where I asked for time to check online), but not the second or third (where I cancelled). Also the guy I first spoke to had been re-employed & was in the office beside the last guy (seems it was his last ever shift before his holiday). I was promised that the bill I had seen was up to 23rd December, not from 23rd December as I had remembered - another lie! Also the written confirmation he promised has been lost in the post.

I am now ready to reclaim the December DD payment & cancel the DD & 'see them in court'. I have emailed them, but I expect little progress.

How can big companies get away with this? I have to tread on eggshells when it comes to clients - I say we are guilty until proved innocent - why do I never get anything like the service I try to deliver?

I can't wait to cancel my 3 contract (mobile) and never deal with them again! P&G (probably giffgaff) is looking good - get the wife & my mum moved to them & free calls to both - happy days.

CONGRATULATIONS - you have reached the end of my rant!

You sound like you hate 3 as much as I do! I had bad experience after bad experience with that company- scammed me into another 18 month contract and threatened to take the entire amount out of my account if I returned the (unused) mobile they wrongly sent me (they had promised a much better one, said I could only send it back if I tried it, I told them I tried it- lied as I hadn't and they said I could no longer return it...?!!!)

I have just recently cancelled my contract with them. My final call had the retentions person saying what had happened was "unethical and very wrong" yet refused to better the deals I had seen on phones 4u, e2save or even the 02 website so even if I had wanted to stay (they would have had to pay me to do that!!) I had no reason to.

If your struggling with the lies, contact OFCOM and Consumer Direct and Trading Standards, take notes, names and times of your calls and don't let it lie, I gave up too soon after consumer direct said it was all too common but couldn't help me- if I'd had contacted Ofcom and Trading Standards I maybe may not have had to endure 18 months of the worst phone created by man! (..or was it created by man? am thinking no one could be that stupid!)
