Indoor Cat not using Litter Tray - Help

Hi folks,
Just after some ideas from you guys if you could.
I have two adorable 12 year old pedigree indoor cats, one male, one female, who I would not be without.
They have, since tiny, both been brilliant at using the single litter tray I have (catsan litter of choice) but just recently one of them, not sure which as never caught in the act, has done a few No2 in our living room.
Now, I'm expecting an addition to the family in a few months, which doesn't seem to be bothering either cat, although my knee space at night is a little less than normal!!!
As you can imagine, I am pretty keen that they stop doing their business in places other than where they really should.
My DH cleaned out their litter tray the night before last and in the morning, there was a little present for us on the carpet so it's not because their litter isn't clean.
Our carpet is dark blue, can anyone suggest something I can perhaps spray on the carpet in the new area of choice, that will deter poor puss and not cause my carpet to become spotty in colour????
Thanks in advance!!!:D

Get another tray. My cats happily shared one tray for months and then one day the male cat decided he wasn't going to use it - he would use the floor right next to it. As soon as I got another tray the problem was solved - it's a bit of a PITA to have two trays but better than cleaning up poo all the time!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0

Hi Apricot,
I have tried another tray in the past and believe it or not, they won't use the other one. They have always, since we got them as little kittens, used the same tray and that was 12 years ago.
I will give it a go on the offchance, but the No2 in the corner just seems to be a one off every now and again.
It is strange......:jMini Coops arrived 2011:j0 -
I'm not a cat owner but my sister had a similar problem with her cat. She was advised to try a different cat litter and it worked, the cat just didn't like the litter she was using for some reason. It's worth a try

check that cats are not ill. Mine started doing random poos & it turned out he had a urinary blockage.0
