How to organise files and photos on windows 7 ????

Hello , I would really appreciate some help please with the problem I seem to have .
I have recently purchased a new pc which has windows 7 installed . However over the last few days I have been trying countlessly on trying to understand how the libraries / folders / documents work , as I am used to using windows Xp .

As my older pc hardrives are now write offs I have lost hundreds of pictures of my little girl being a baby etc etc which I never got round to backing up onto disks before I lost the lot :(:(:(

So I have managed to gather my camera memory cards together which were taken over the last couple of years , whilst also my bf travelling tour recently.
As there is over 4000 pictures I have added onto My pictures [ as there is so many I have not renamed them so they are just numbers }. I cannot seem to separate them into different folders - by dragging and dropping or anything!!
Once I make a new libary folder i.e Disneyland pics I can then not find how to add the pictures to the folder / file ?? So I can put them in folders to arrange them easier .

I actually want to copy them all onto disks which I also know will take a while , which again I cannot navigate around windows 7 to figure out how to do it .

I guess there is an easy way to do this , I have just spent hours trying to work it out ,
So any help would be great please ??
Thanks ;)

Write offs - what happened? Do you still have the hard disks - if you do, and they are still spinning you could try a recuva deep scan

If data is important, usually a good idea to leave one copy on the hard disk, backup at least once to an external disk, and write at least one copy to dvd. ie always leave the main copy in situ, and make duplicates rather than moving them.

Libraries are a way of grouping folders together under a name, but you should still be able to make folders with any name, and drag and drop the photos in there, then burn to the top level folder to dvd, or backup to external drive.

I tried my best at fixing my old hardrives , then I got my pc literate friend to help whom wiped windows and re installed it - No avail . I then paid to have a pc diagnostics done which came back that it has done 44/961 hrs and plenty of times its failed . So the guy said in the shop it is irreparable :( !!??!

I did have copies on disk which have got lost in my house move and all the pics I had on other memory cards were stolen with my camera a few years back , so my hardrives were my last hope :(

I have learnt from this mistake and plan to do plenty of disks this time and purchase an external drive hopefully asap:o

When I click on a pic or selection to move them I right click and the only option is to move to documents - so this then places them back where I have tried moving them from ?
I have made folders with names and I either get a error message or I cannot drag and drop into them .
I am so completely lost with all this now ;)

If you still have the hard disk you could try recuva or unstoppable copier.

You should be able to create a folder anywhere where you have rights, and copy (or cut) and paste your photo's into there
