Visa for the US?

When does the Visa waiver thing run out for UK peeps travelling to the US? I have a readable passport, just not one of the new biometric/bloody vile/retiner scanned/tissue sample passports

as long as you have a full british machine readable passport (i.e any passport issued after 1992) NOT issued after OCT 26th 2006 ( i.e last week !!!) you will be eligable under the Visa waiver program

all machine readable passports really should qualify as they should be issuing nothing but biometric ones now.

prices have now gone up i think so you have missed the chance to save unfortunalty

you should strictly have a Visa if you have ever been convicted of a crime (and will almost certainly be refused if it was drugs related ) but has has been discuussed on previous threads you are unlikely to run into problems as they have no real way of checking, unless you are too honest and own up. but if you want to be super safe then get a visa if this applys to you

If your passport was issued by a UK embassy or consulate there's a chance that it isn't machine readable and hence ineligible for the VWP.

This link to the US Embassy tells you all about the VWP and the US State Department has descriptions of machine readable passports

You shouldn't have a problem if it is a Machine Readable Passport, however if you cross from Canada to the US via road (i.e in a hire car), then you have to pay a fee to US Immigration (I think it was $20 back in 2002). Canadian immigration don't charge though

It's something to be aware of if you are driving over for the day
