London central parking on the weekend (near Chinatown)

I'm off to Chinatown to pick some things up and as I need to take the car I'll go on the weekend to avoid the damn congestion charge. However, I'd rather not get some massive parking bill or even worse, parking fines.

Any idea for cheap or free and near. I know about "park and ride" options and they don't suit.

Cheers

PS

What are Westminster parking restrictions on a Sunday ?

I'm not too sure, but I bookmarked the following website a while back. Apparently you can enter an area, address or post code and it'll find the cheapest parking nearby. It only covers certain parts of London at the moment - not sure exactly where Chinatown is!

Near Leicester Square where Chinatown is you will struggle to find free parking even on a Sunday. You can park on the street near Tottenham Court Road (north of Oxford Street) on Sunday and after 1.30p.m. Saturday. This is about a 10 minute walk away from where you want to obe.
  • How long will you be there for exactly? It may not be cheap but the NCP on brewer street will be far cheaper then getting towed or clamped or ticketed. I think its £12 for 2 hours.

I just dont ever trust westminister council whenever i have to drive in there

Apparantly WCC don't clamp or tow anymore, well since 2008, according to their website HERE. If it is causing a "serious" obstruction they will relocate it to the nearest safe parking bay for free! Well still £120 ticket. However they did seem to be very active ticketing when I was up there last Friday evening.

Use the park-up site as mentioned above, there's quite a few bays that are free on a sunday but you'll have to search around. Will be busy but keep driving round shaftesbury avenue and covent garden and you'll find an empty space eventually...

You can park at parking meters and on single yellow lines on a sunday. Watch out for "residents" parking spaces - you will be ticketed.
As for parking near to Chinatown, Dean Street, Frith Street and Greek Street would be your best bet.
