I doubt it. And a DIY DNA test does not sound like a very happy way of going about solving whatever problem it is intended to solve.

There are online ones where you send a sample away but they have proved unreliable on Jeremy Kyle, his test was the opposite of the online one, with something like this i suppose you would want to be as sure as you can be.

Some chemists sell them and you can buy them online, although obviously there are risks involved.

It is unlikely you will find one for less than £100. Most are in the region of £150 I believe.

The first result on a Google search is http://www.genetrack.co.uk/. I've never heard of them and so I'm not endorsing them but there's some info. You can search Google for other options.

If anyone were going to go through with this though I think the pharmacy would be the first place to look.

It depends on the situation, obviously, but if there is a likelihood that a positive result will send your friend into court for access to a child and/or ensure that the CSA are involved, he/she would do well to make sure they get a test which is court approved. The cheaper tests, as I understand it, don't prove who a father is quite as conclusively as the more expensive ones (I guess they analyze less of the DNA strands) so you get a 75% likelihood rather than a 99.9% likehihood.

The company the CSA use are Cellmark and they are also approved by the courts (I think). They're not cheap. If you go through the CSA for the test, it's cheaper, which is something to consider if money is a problem.

Finally, not a judgement, just my experience. My ex husband demanded a DNA test on our third child (conceived the same week he walked out on me). The damage that did to any on-going relationship between us for the sake of the children was terminal. My ex had no reason to ask for a test - he knew that - he was just trying to pull a fast one where his girlfriend was concerned, pretending that the baby could't possibly be his. The damage done in demanding a test is serious - your friend should think very carefully before asking for one, although I do appreciate there are very genuine reasons why it might be required.
