Changing Supplier
Hi Everyone,
I know this is a cardinal sin in the Martin Lewis world, but I have been with the same supplier since I bought my first property about 6 years ago and have never really shopped around. I am on the standard tarif, I manage my account online, take my meter readings and pay by monthly DD. I have noticed lately I am paying a lot compared to my friends.
I have done some looking on compare sites but I am a bit nervous about making the switch, my wife is 7 months pregnant, I dont want to end up with no gas and electric because I have tried to switch!!
I am currently with Southern Electric for gas and electric. I have tried to get my head around the bills and think my monthly spend is up to £50/month for electric and £40/month for gas. Is this about right for a couple in a 2 bed terrace house??? We have brand new A-Rated combi boiler on gas all other appliances are electric.
Is changing online easy and nothing to worry about? Being young naive about these things I need some expert guidance.
Thanks
Joe

Your gas and electricity is not 'cut off' during the switchover, even momentarily! It's just a change in the billing party. Should take you about 20 mins, go via a cashback site after picking your best tariff via a comp site.
No one can tell you whether your bills are reasonable without knowing your kWh consumption-your monthly DD spend is meaningless.
Make sure you do your comparison using your annual kWh figures, not your monthly DD spend-the latter does not giver accurate results.
However your electricity usage is extremely high if you have gas CH and DHW-which indicates that your monthly DD's are not a measure of your actual consumption. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
