Ok ive been reading up on this today

Basically if you have XP home installed you can get the VISTA upgrade when it comes out - BUT you have to pay for it.

If you have XP Pro or Media Center Edition (Which you pay dell extra for) you can get a FREE upgrade (you pay for postage) when Vista is released in the new year.

So you either pay extra for Pro or MCE and get FREE Vista or get home and Pay for your Vista upgrade.

And of course that depends on which flavour of vista you choose, theres Basic Home right through to Ultimate edition with everything in it. Im sure Dell wont give you a free upgrade to Ultimate edition.

Im using the latest release code of Vista and its looking good, obviously with new operating systems there will be teething problems and everyone will say "its rubbish" but its not too bad - to the general user you wont see too many visible benefits. but it looks sexy and has a lot of nice bells and whistles and of course behing the scenes theres a lot more security and stuff going on.

All in all it depends on the pricing, ive not seen any pricing on the various versions of Vista.
