How can you "Turn the car around" without a battery?deddogblues wrote: »So you must have removed the battery then turned the car round when you took the car off the road in the first place, otherwise you would have been able to refit the battery, why?
Always reverse onto the drive way as its an offence to reverse off the driveway onto a public highway!
On the day in question I needed to take the battery off the car to charge it up and put petrol in the tank as it was very low on fuel, I walked to my nearest petrol station and filled up my petrol can.
The fuel filler on the car was right up against the wall of the house and could not get the petrol can and funnel in place. The only way was to turn car around where the filler cap would be on the garden wall side of the driveway where there would be enough room to get at it.
It was also raining so it would be more convenient to have the car right up under the garage door to work on the battery problem.
Hope this explains things better?0 -
Unfortunately its irrelevant as to why the car was on the road. As it was you have committed an offence and will likely hear from the DVLA soon! The only time a untaxed car can be on a public highway without tax is if it is being driven to or from a prearranged MOT.
It probably seems unfair as you were only turning the car around, but I don't see any defence you could offer to avoid a penalty.0 -
Esmerobbo is spot on. It seems to me reading through this thread that someone has picked up a telephone! Have you been 'turning your car round' often?PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

That is not correct.
Rule 201 - Highway Code
"Do not reverse from a side road into a main road. When using a driveway, reverse in and drive out if you can."
Highway code rules that are legal requirement contain the word 'MUST' and cite the particular act underneath. Rule 201 is only guidance, however, it could be used against you to demonstrate DWDCA, for example.
The OP may not be able to reverse in - I cannot reverse up my drive as there is no room to open the door on the left hand side, therefore I drive in and carefully reverse out.0 -
Quite logical, just wonder what the odds are of them catching someone doing this just once. About as long as a ppc sueing us.That of course could be the case, however when they are in an area cruising around I wonder if they have a list of SORN vehicles relevant to that area?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

Would seem doubtful to be caught on the one occasion you had the car on the road.
Just seems strange that in a quite cul de sac the one time you do they are there!:o0 -

which is why I reckon a neighbour or someone has picked up the phone or even gone on line to report the OP for having his car on a public road while SORNd.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0
