House Insurance - Due for renewal - and special offers about?

Options
The title says it all really!

Last year I renewed with Egg (AXA) and had a free case of wine from Virgin - which almost outweighed the cost of the years insurance!

Best deal I can find so far is £127 premium with Prudential and £80 cashback via Quidco.

Does anyone know of any great insurance freebies going around???? I would like to compare what I can get to the Pru one before I finally make up my mind! :T :T

Thanks all!

You could try getting separate quotes for Buildings and Contents cover from different companies via Quidco to see whether you would end up better off that way.

(Obviously cashback is not always guaranteed so could be a bit of a gamble!) Barclays are currently offering £125 cashback through Quidco and Lloyds £120.

Ive just got quotes from both Lloyds and Barclays via quidco, both come out cheaper than my renewal but more interestingly they both come out with premiums that are less than the quoted cash backs via quidco. Does that mean I will get £120 from quidco for spending £95 with lloyds? I am getting very exited thinking that I am going to be quids in. Mind you, I did find that quidco take a while to pay out but then again I cant really lose ! Can I??

    Advice or comments appreciated.
  • The Quidco set up is really playing into your hands here - and is a very interesting set up in general.

It certainly looks as though you're at the cheaper end of the house insurance market (if indeed you are including buildings insurance in this). I wouldn't have thought you'd make a vastly reduced premium by looking elsewhere.

It is worth phoning your potential insurance providers to get them to budge on the premium. No harm in explaining that you are looking at the Quidco route, would they beat it if you purchased directly from them.

That way, you have all the facts - the final haggled down price from the insurer to match against the normal online price minus the Quidco offer.

Then it is a simple comparison of how much risk you feel there lies with Quidco paying out (and time delay) against the safe option where you are certain what the deal is.

My quote is for contents only (I don't need buildings), and I have spoken to my current insureres today who cannot (willnot!) budge on the price at all.

As I have always found quidco to be excellent and never had any payment problems with them, then I think I will change to the Pru.

(The Barlcays and Lloyds cashback is great, but the cover is considerably less for considerably more premium! The extra cashback still doesn't make these two good deals).

    Thanks for all your help!
